Product Introduction

Winner brand NPT connectors at least has NPT thread male or female connect end in the connector, NPT is American National pipe tapered thread, also known as ANSI/ASME B1.20.2M pipe threads.

The NPT thread has below characteristics:

1.The truncation of roots and crests of thread are flat

2.60°thread angle

3.The angle between taper and center axis of pipe thread is 1°47’24”

4.Thread pitch measured per inch.

Because the NPT thread truncation of roots and crests of thread are flat, it is different with NPTF, so a PTFE sealant tape must be used to ensure a leak-free seal, then give an effective seal for connectors using hydraulic fluids.

NPT thread sizes for Winner connectors include: 1/8”-27, 1/4”-18, 3/8”-18, 1/2”-14, 3/4”-14, 1”-11.5, 1.1/4”-11.5, 1.1/2”-11.5, 2”-11.5.

How to identify it is a NPT thread and determine the thread size?

1.Visual inspection the thread and it is taper, or use a caliper measure the out diameter of external thread or the minor diameter of internal thread in different length position and found the diameter is different and meet 1:16 taper, or directly use a 1:16 cone gauge.

2.Use a caliper measure the diameter of base line position. Measure the thread diameter with an ID/OD caliper, external thread diameter is measured on the out diameter, and holding the caliper at a slight angle for a more accurate reading, for internal thread is measured on the internal diameter, and holding it perpendicular to the thread for a more accurate female reading.

3.Measure the threads per inch (TPI) or the pitch. As the measured diameter and use relational pitch gauge, try different thread gauges until determine the tightest fit, engage as many threads as possible, there are more thread engaged, the more accurate the reading. Hold the fitting/connector and thread pitch gauge up to the light, looking for gaps between the gauge and thread, this is easier to see on a external thread fitting/connector than a internal thread fitting/connector. Or directly measure the distance of two threads crest
